Why the Lucky 15 is the Saturday Special

Walk into any betting shop on a Saturday morning and you'll hear punters asking for a Lucky 15. It is the undisputed king of multiple bets for one simple reason: the bonuses.

Unlike a simple accumulator where one loser kills the whole ticket, a Lucky 15 keeps you alive. Even better, most bookmakers offer significant incentives — and this calculator accounts for all of them.

How Does a Lucky 15 Work?

You pick 4 horses. The bet consists of 15 separate bets:

  • 4 Singles — if only one wins, you still get paid
  • 6 Doubles — any 2 winning combinations
  • 4 Trebles — any 3 winning combinations
  • 1 Four-Fold — all 4 win
Because there are 15 bets, a £1 Lucky 15 costs £15 in total. Each Way doubles that to £30.

Don't Waste the Bonus

The "Double Odds for One Winner" bonus is the secret weapon of this bet — but only if you use it right.

The mistake: Putting four short-priced favourites (e.g., 1/2, Evens) in a Lucky 15. If only one wins at Evens, double odds gets you 2/1. You still lose money on the total stake.

The smarter approach: Use Lucky 15s for value horses at 4/1 or bigger. Back a 5/1 shot as your only winner and the double odds bonus pays you at 10/1 — often enough to cover the entire cost of the bet in one hit.

Lucky 15 vs Yankee

A Yankee is 11 bets across the same 4 selections — but with no singles. If you play a Yankee and only one horse wins, you get nothing back. The Lucky 15 costs 4 extra unit stakes and gives you full insurance on a single winner. Almost always worth it.
